The year under review witnessed moderate success in the
performance of the districts in age group tournaments. Districts forum taking
cognizance of drop in levels of performance in age group tournaments decided at
its meeting at Nagapatnam to conduct a summer coaching camp for the promising
players in the age groups of 15, 17 & 19. Accordingly, summer coaching camp
was organised at the VB’s Nest, Kelambakkam for a period of 20 days from 28th
of May 2004.
Highlights of the performance of the District Cricket
Association is given below:
The combined District Seniors performed creditably reaching the
quarter finals of the All India Sahara Buchi Babu Tournament.
Shri.E.Suresh, R.Jesuraj and G.Vignesh performed creditably in
the Under 22/ Under 25 age group level tournaments enabling Tamilnadu to emerge
as winners. Mr.Petson Mathews also contributed with his keeping and batting
abilities in the Under 19 age group tournaments.

Tamilnadu is attached to this report.
A detailed statement showing the number of clubs / league
matches conducted by the districts is also enclosed in the report.
The constant endeavour to create turf wickets in the districts
has borne results with as many as 4 districts having completed the turf wicket
preparation and 3 districts on the verge of completion.
Details regarding the progress of district league programmes for
the year 2003-04 is also annexed in the report.
Inter District Tournaments for the S.S.Rajan Trophy for Seniors/
P.R.Thevar Trophy for Under-17/ and in age groups of Under 22 / Under 19 /
Under 15 / Under 13 were conducted during the year.
Detailed performance reports about the various tournaments are
enclosed in the report.
We are extremely thankful to the Indian Bank for having come
forward to sponsor the Districts league at a cost of Rs.7 lakhs. The
cooperation of all the officials of Indian Bank at the corporate office as well
as at the district centres needs special mention.
We are thankful to the TI cycles for sponsoring the Hercules
TNCA Inter District Under 19 Tournament for a sum of Rs.4 lakhs and presenting
individual prizes for the winners and runners of the tournament.
We are also thankful to the parent body TNCA for their continued support
towards development of cricket in the districts.
